I approached the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) earlier in the year to offer my services. I felt they were doing wonderful work helping asylum seekers in Melbourne and I wanted to contribute.
I didn’t hear anything for a few months then had a phone call early in June asking me if I’d like to do some work - on a voluntary basis of course, they’re a struggling NGO. I ended up photographing some of their volunteers who work on their Community Speakers Program and give presentation to schools, businesses and community groups. They are all about building a better community undersanding of asylum seeker issues. The photographs aren’t going to win any awards, but at least it’s for a worthy cause.
